Watertown part of new state program to reduce poverty

The city of Watertown will be one of 16 communities across the state served by the state's new Empire Corps program. Announced by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo Tuesday, the Empire Corps program aims to reduce poverty in New York state, and will be funded $6.7 million over the next three years.

In each community, program members will reach out to impoverished residents and help them identify and connect with solutions. VISTA and AmeriCorps members will work together to find and address the specific needs of each community.
